최상급을 이용한 구문유형은 상당히 어렵죠. 그리고 외워놓고 이해까지 해도 실전에서 응용을 하려면 역시 어렵구요. 하지만 요점은 이렇습니다. 굳이 다 외우지 않아도 최상급을 이용한 문장의 의미가 해석해 보면 거의 비슷하다는 의미죠. 즉, 최상급의 의미로만 해석이되지 다른 뜻으로는 해석이 되지 않는다는 것입니다. 그럼 최상급의 뜻으로 쓰이는 문장들을 살펴보죠.
최상급의 뜻으로 쓰이는 구문
Jane is the most beautiful girl in her class. Jane은 그녀의 반에서 가장 아름답운 소녀이다.
= Jane is more beautiful than any other girl in her class. [비교급+ than+ any other+단수명사]
= Jane is as beautiful as any other girl in her class. [as+ than+ as+ any other+단수명사 : 다른 어떤 ~에 못지않게 …하다.]
= Jane is more beautiful than all the other girls in her class. [비교급+ than+ all the other+복수명사 : 다른 어떤 ~보다 …하다.]
= Jane is more beautiful than anyone else in her class. [비교급+ than+ anyone else~ : 그밖의 어떤 ~보다 …한 것은 없다.]
= No other girl in her class is so(as) beautiful as Jane. [No (other)+단수명사+is+so(as)+원급+as~ : ~만큼 …한 것은 없다.]
= No other girl in her class is more beautiful than Jane. [No (other)+단수명사+is+비교급+than~ : ~보다 …한 것은 없다.]
Time is the most precious of all. Jane시간은 모든 것 중에서 가장 귀중하다.[최상급]
= Time is more precious than anything else. 시간은 그 밖의 어떤 것 보다도 귀중하다.
= Nothing is more precious than time. [Nothing+ 비교급+ than+~: ~보다 더 …한 것은 없다.]

최상급의 뜻으로 쓰이는 구문
구체적인 비교의 대상이 없고 막연하게 정도 "매우~하다."라는 표현을 나타낼 때에는 절대최상급으로 나타냅니다. 형태는 「a+most+단수명사」또는「most+복수명사」입니다. 이때는 most는 very 의 뜻입니다.
Tom is a most smartest boy. Tom은 매우 똑똑한 소년이다.[절대최상급]
Tom is the smartest boy. Tom은 가장 똑똑한 소년이다.[최상급]
