when＋S＋V : ~할 때, ~면, ~하는 경우
• When it snows, I never drive a car. 「~할 때」
눈이 올 때 나는 절대 운전하지 않는다.
• I'll take a rest when I have nothing to do now. 「~할 경우, ~면」
지금 할 일이 없으면 쉴 거야.
• The train had already left whenI arrived at the station, 「시간의 우선순위 주의!」
내가 역에 도착했을 때 이미 기차는 떠나고 없었다.
• She was present at schoolwhen she was sick.「~이지만」
그녀는 아프지만 학교에 갔다.
while＋S＋V : "~동안에; 반면에"
• While (I was) walking down, I saw little boys busking. 「~동안에」
= During my walking down, I saw little boys busking. 「during+명사/동명사」
길을 걷는 동안 어린 소년들이 길거리 연주하는 것을 보았다.
• Some like math, while others don't like it. 「반면에=whereas」
어떤 사람들은 수학을 좋아하는 반면에 다른 사람들은 싫어한다.
as＋S＋V : ~할 때, ~하면서
• I was taking a shower as the phone rang. 「~할 때」
전화벨이 울릴 때 나는 샤워중이었다.
• My mom often hums as she was cleaning the room. 「~하면서」
우리 엄마는 방을 청소하시면서 종종 콧노래를 부르신다.
since＋S＋V : ~한 이래, ~한 이후(지금까지)
• It has been raining since last night.
어제 밤부터 지금까지 비가 오고 있다.
• It has been three years since he died.
= It is three years since he died.
= Three years have passed since he died.
= He died three years ago.
그가 죽은 지 3년이 되었다.
until(till)＋S＋V : ~할 때까지
• You should finish the work until I come here again.
=You should finish the work by the time I come here again.
내가 다시 올 때까지 너는 숙제를 끝내야 한다.
• People do not know the importance of health until they lose it.
= It is not until they lose it that people konw the importance of health.
= Not until they lose it do people know the importance of health.
사람들은 건강을 잃고 나서야 그 중요성을 안다. not A until B : B하고 나서야 비로소 A하다.
as soon as＋S＋V : ~하자마자 / as long as ＋S＋V : ~하는 한, 하기만 하면
• As soon as the thief saw me, he ran away.
= On(Upon) seeing me, the thief ran away.
= The moment the thief saw me, he ran away.
= The instant the thief saw me, he ran away.
= Scarcely had the thief seen me before he ran away.
= Hardly had the thief seen me when he ran away.
= No sooner had the thief seen me than he ran away.
그 도둑은 나를 보자마자 도망갔다.
• As long as I love you, I'll keep you forever.
내가 당신을 사랑하는 한 영원히 지켜드리겠습니다. 「~하는 한 : 시간부사절」
